Issue deploying maps in SSRS 2008 to Report Server

Hello,

I'm using BIDS 2008 to develop reports that include maps.

However, when in preview, I receive the following error:

"The map, Map x, was removed from the report. SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services does not support map report items".

I've read around and this is because the TargetServerVersion  is not set to "SQL Server 2008 R2". This, in turn, is because our report server is only v2008 and not v2008 R2.

When I set the TargetServerVersion to "SQL Server 2008 R2" and try to deploy, I receive this error:

"The report server at xxx is an earlier version than the one specified in the TargetServerVersion property. The RDL files generated by the build process are incompatible with the report server. Change TSV to SQL Server 2008."

So, it looks like I'm trying to deploy a feature that's only supported in R2 to an earlier server version.

I have 2 questions:

1) How intensive is the process of upgrading SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2?

2) In the interim, are there any hacks that can I use to deploy a report with embedded maps to our non-R2 report server, even if this reduces functionality slightly, but still includes map elements for users to view?

Thanks,

ZP
