SSRS Mobile Reports Shared Datasets Security

Users are not able to view the "mobile reports" on SSRS 2016 report manager, if they don't have permissions to underlying shared datasets.

Is this by intention or a bug?

The definition of this report is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services.

Hello,

This is an issue we allready struggeling with for several weeks, various articles are found on the net but none of them gives us a stable and definitive solution.

Problem:

We are making RDLC reports in visual studio, all working fine, once we publish them on AZURE we have the following error message

the solutions are WEB (aspx.net) in VB.net.

  • An error occurred during local report processing.
    • The definition of the report 'REPORTSdefs\TSnotAssembled.rdlc' is invalid.
      • The definition of this report is not valid or supported by this version of Reporting Services. The report definition may have been created with a later version of Reporting Services, or contain content that is not well-formed or not valid based on Reporting Services schemas. Details: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

we need a solid solution we can use for all our reporting project now and in the future.

SQL Mobile Report Publisher Questions, Dataset Strategy

$

Hey Everyone,

I have a dataset that looks at invoice lines and aggregates Sales, Profit Dollars, and Profit Percent ( Profit dollars / Sales ) up to a product category, and a location.

In my mobile report publisher dashboard, I want to:

-show a chart aggregated to just the product category level, with this year sales, and last year sales. No problem

-show another chart aggregated to just to the location level, with this year and last year sales. Almost no problem.

-Lastly, i want to show a single row of total Sales, Profit Dollars, and Profit Percentage. But I essentially need to re-cook that Profit Dollars / Sales division at the single row aggregation level. Am I overlooking how to do that in MRP? or do i need a 2nd dataset just for that ?

I believe in SSRS you could use the "aggregate" function which would re-do that calculation once the aggregation has been done. Side question, in Power BI, if i'm pulling the Profit Percent from a tabular model measure, is there an "aggregate" function to do the same thing in PBI? or do i need to create a copy of the existing calculated field for re-aggregating on the dataset at various levels.

One other side question, on my category chart to the location level, it has about ~30 locations. The labels won't show up in the chart. Am i missing where to turn them on ? or is it too much to show? If so, is there a way i could do Top 10 locations or something without creating a 2nd dataset ?

Thanks !

SSRS 2016 subscriptions with dynamic data source and default value parameters not evaluating global variables

$

We are having an issue creating subscriptions for reports on SSRS 2016.  We do not have this issue on SSRS 2012.

these reports use a dynamic data source which is determined by a db call with globals!ReportServerUrl as an input parameter.  for some reason, the subscription default values cannot be evaluated on subscription creation page with the error "This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter".

basically, we have dynamic logic that segments which report servers can use which data sources.  This logic has worked very well for our needs until our upgrade to SSRS 2016.

if we hard code our reportserverurl in place of the global variable, the default values are properly evaluated and the subscription can be created.

My first reaction is that this is a defect in SSRS 2016.

Our workaround has been to create two versions of the same report--one with the dynamic data source for users and another just for subscriptions with the dynamic data source removed.

Anyone have any thoughts on why globals cannot be properly evaluated as a parameter for a db call that is a source for a dynamic data source on a report subscription? (please excuse the run on sentence!  i wanted to summarize my issue in a single sentence.)

Open a subreport in a new window - issue

I'm trying to open a subreport in a new window or tab using the Open URL, and pass a parameter. My syntax looks correct, and it does open the report in a new tab but the subreport doesn't execute and instead prompts for a parameter to be entered. I am passing the parameter but the subreport does not seem to retrieve it.

Here is my code:

=

"javascript:void(window.open('http://<ServerName>/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fPRM%2fWen+Service%2fService+Call+Cost+Audit+Detail&SelectedSubTabId=GenericPropertiesTab&Service_Call_ID="& rtrim(Fields!Service_Call_ID.Value) &"','_blank'))"

Drill through report and Interpret HTML

Hi All:

I have a series of reports that I would like to create.  So, I got fancy and added 'Placeholder Properties...' of 'Interpret HTML tags as styles', but the Drill-through action do not work when deployed to the server.  The anchor tags are not in the table cells (when using browser dev tools).   So my expression is as follows, and has a driil-through action:

="Current Hauler: <b><u>" & Fields!HlrNbr.Value & "</u> - " & Fields!HaulerName.Value & "</b>"

Any work a-round?

Selected dataset does not contain any spatial field - Mapping not working with any datasource

$

I've been struggling with adding points to a map inside SSRS. As a test of sanity I have tried following the tutorial titled: "Tutorial: Map Report (Report Builder)" to confirm the service was even functional.

I can add the map layer but when trying to add in the point layer provided by the tutorial I receive the error, "The selected dataset does not contain any spatial field."

Any idea what may be causing this? According to the tutorial the datasource should be irrelevant as the sample data uses cast to provide the results of the query. I cannot import the demo data or my own provided table with geometry field present. Always the same "The selected dataset does not contain any spatial field."

Error: " The report parameter 'A' has a default value or valid value that depends on the report parameter 'A'. Forward dependencies are not valid ", how to resolve this ?

End-users' inheritance of access rights to otherwise secure SSRS folders and subfolders

Although we break end-users' inheritance of access rights and assign them to specific SSRS subfolders, they have theHome link at the top of the SSRS reporting services screen.  Users click on a SharePoint link to their group'sfolder, and they are presented with reports for their exclusive use.  When they use theHome link, their rights seem to revert to those of the Home folder's System Users, and they gain access to folders from which they were restricted.  Our questions are (1) is this particular to our SharePoint integration?  That is, is SharePoint restoring their permissions when they use theHome link, or is it just within SSRS?  (2) How can we block the use of theHome link in SSRS to prevent this breach of roles?  Does it have to do with the "View Folder" permissions usually granted to all system users, and should that particular right be revoked?  What are we missing?

Presently using SSRS 2005 and SSRS 2008.

Cannot connect to Report Server and Reporting services from Report Manager and SQL management studio

Hi

I am unable to connect to MS SQL Reporting Service using form authentication.
I have attached some screenshots and reporting services log file.
Can you please tell me what is giving this issue and any work-around or solution to fix that.

I am somehow aware why some of the error occured. Firstly, ReportServer URL Invalid Parameter, occured because you haven't specify correctly Report Server details. The suggestion i know and tried is to add this tags correctly. But there is no effect in my case and I am still getting the error message. And I am unable to update UserAccount database. Infant, the connection couldn't establish at all. Why is that so?

<add key="ReportServer" value="server name"/>
<add key="ReportServerInstance" value="RS_MSSQLSERVER"/>

Here is the connection that I use in C#, tried 1) and 2) but neither give me successful database connection.

 1) "Server=Server=SERVERNAME\\MSSQLSERVER;"+"Integrated Security=SSPI"+"Database=UserAccountsDb"

 2) "Server=Server=AKARY;"+"Database=UserAccountsDb;"+"User Id=myusername;"+"Password=somepassword"

Thank you.

P.S I have followed steps from

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc281383.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396    http://bharathonsqlserver.blogspot.sg/2012/09/forms-authentication-in-ssrs-2012.html    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/675943/SSRS-Forms-Authentication

Using a formula for color no longer works in SSRS 2016

If I try and set the color of a field using a formula (=IIf(Fields!update_status.Value="Successful","Green","Red"), and run the report in SSRS 2008R2 or SSRS 2014, the report works as expected.

Running the same report in SSRS 2016, no color change is applied.

Designing the report in Visual Studio 2015 SSDT, it works as expected.  When it is deployed to the SSRS 2016 server, it no longer changes the color.

 SSRS 2008R2 (Also SSRS 2014):

Update Status: Successful [Green]

SSRS 2016:

Update Status: Successful [Black]

Display existing KPIs on a Paginated Report

Is there a way to display an existing KPI tile on a paginated report, without re-creating it using "report items"?

Linked Report / Linked KPI?

$

Just like creating a linked report on report manager, is there a way to create a "Linked KPI"?

I have created several KPIs for different departments and are placed in their own department's folder. However, there are KPIs that are common between departments and need to be shared.

Currently, I'm going through the pain of creating same KPIs in each department folder. This makes it worse when any changes are made. I have to go back and make those changes everywhere.

Any trick or workaround?

SSRS export to pdf - Adobe window pops up: Reading Untagged Document.

Some, but not all, of my reports - when I export them to a pdf and open the pdf I get this very annoying popup window titled "Reading Untagged Document" and the description says

"This 20-page document is untagged and must be prepared for reading.  While the document is being analyzed, your assistive technology will not be able to interact with this application."

I have created tons of reports since the beginning of SSRS and have not seen this until this past year or so. This is not appropriate for my clients to have to deal with.  any idea how I can prevent this from popping up?

Thanks.

Using SQL Server 2014, I have SSRS report which connects to Microsoft SharePoint List. The query looks like:

<RSSharePointListxmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"><ListName>Journaltasks</ListName><ViewFields><FieldRefName="Title"/><FieldRefName="Status"/><FieldRefName="Project"/></ViewFields><Query><Where><MembershipType='SPGroup'ID='15'><FieldRefName='AssignedTo'/></Membership></Where></Query></RSSharePointList>
The part of query where value 15, I need to change it on value of my report parameter ReportGroupID. Hope for help with correct syntax.
